BALANCE WHAT IS IT REALY?
Everyone talks about there is no balance, so what is there?
Most call alignment “balance” … but I don’t because I don’t believe a state of perfect balance exists.
Life moves at the speed of light, and right when you feel you’ve hit somewhat of a “homeostasis”, next thing you know you’re being pulled in every different direction with different obligations…
… nonetheless, I’m inspired MOST by individuals who progress in MANY aspects of life — mental wellness, nutrition, exercise, rest/sleep, environment, relationships — and place a high worth on EACH of these facets…
This is that path of learning to live a life of success vs chasing success.
I’m far from perfect, but I strive to be my best self. Aligned. I want to be and WILL be the best I can be in all aspects of life, and when I take inventory and realize I’m not… well, let’s just say that is when I pull off the road take inventory and demand time to rest and refocus. I challenge you today to take inventory of each of these aspects of life and be honest with yourself with how you’re doing…
Out of these six areas, what is ONE THING you can do to improve today?
1️⃣ MENTAL WELLNESS: Mental wellness is about purpose, attitude, and belief. It’s about dedicating yourself to being a lifelong learner. Realizing you don’t and never will have all of the answers. The reason why sports teams hire sports psychologists for their players and companies hire executive coaches for their execs before big projects. How YOU talk to YOU in that head of yours is important. Be gentle with yourself. But have standards.
2️⃣ NUTRITION: Put good in, get good out. Minimizing processed food. The closer a food item is to its natural state, chances are, the better it is for you. Monitoring your caloric intake. Drinking enough water. The truth is, if you’re not fueling yourself as best you can, you will not perform as best you can.
3️⃣ EXERCISE This is a hard one for me so I just push give a gentle nudge to dedicate 10 hours of your 168 hour week to exercising. It’s literally 5.9% of your time.
4️⃣ REST / SLEEP: Get 7–8 hours of sleep a night. Half of America these days is getting 7 or less, which is not cool because a lack of sleep seriously affects your cognitive function throughout the day and inhibits you from operating at your highest level. Give your prefrontal cortex the time it needs to rest so you can be less like a brain-dead during the day.
5️⃣ ENVIRONMENT: this may seem very “new-age”, but it’s a fact that having a clean, organized environment at home and work leads to better productivity and creativity. Fresh air, sun, inspirational posters, books, heck maybe even a freaking plant? Focus on ways you can make your workspace more conducive to your well-being.
6️⃣ RELATIONSHIPS - Arguably the most important and also a super touchy subject. Surround yourself with people who share similar values as you and like to do similar things as you. Also, pause and reflect on whether you’ve been a good friend lately. A good family member. A good coworker. The first step is awareness.
The Takeaway:
To be in a state of “balance” would require that nothing changes. That all things in our life remain constant long enough to establish balance and then hold that position. Everything in the Universe is in a state of change including us and our lives. Seek alignment and release the hunt for balance.
