Content, Content Everywhere And Not A Drop To Drink
Struggling with Content Ideas? Try this hack.
Do you ever struggle with content ideas?
Here’s a hack I use that works for virtually any niche…
I call it “YouTube content hacking.”
I’ve shared it with clients and they got a lot of value out of it, so I figured it’d be helpful for you too.
It’s really simple. Just follow these steps, and you’ll never run out of content again:
Step 1: Be clear on WHO exactly your content is meant for.
I’m hoping you already have this down-pact, but of course, if you aren’t already clear on who you’re targeting — you’re going to need to start there first. Make sure you understand exactly who your dream customer/client is. This is a precursor to everything you do in your business, not just your content creation. Once you’ve got that taken care of, you’re ready to start using this technique…
Step 2: Create an Excel or Google sheet to store your content ideas.
I coach my clients on how to use Trello and develop list and cards pre subject. Whatever system you choose the goal the fact is you need a place to store everything.
Step 3: Find the biggest YouTube channels your dream customers are watching.
Pretty much any niche is going to have major YouTube channels/influencers who are dominating that market. Run a simple search to find the ones that your ideal customers would be watching. Go for the biggest channels that have a sizeable audience and viewership, and are regularly publishing content. I’d recommend finding as many channels as you can. The more channels you find, the more content ideas you’ll be able to gather.
Step 4: Go to each channel and click on the “Uploads” or “Videos” tab.
This will bring up all the content published by that channel.
Step 5: Sort the videos by “Most popular.”
If you’re on desktop, you’ll see an option in the upper right corner that says “SORT BY.” Click on that, and select “Most popular.” This will let you see which content has been performing well with your ideal customers.
Step 6: Jot down the content ideas in your Excel/Google sheet or Trello board.
You can use the same topics / similar topics to create your own content. Understand that the idea is to find those topics that your potential clients are most interested in and add your value to the conversation. Let's be clear I am not saying steal the content, but instead use the topic ideas and create your own content around it.
Before you start going negative and saying you think it’s not worthwhile to create new content around these topics since someone is clearly already speaking on the topic… but that isn’t the case. If you are going to create content why not create content people want to read.
People speak on the same topics all the time, and you’re always able to bring your own flavor and input into the conversation. Since those topics are already proven with your audience, it’s a great place to start.
Step 7: Create, publish and re-purpose to multiple platforms.
Multiply your content by re-purposing for multiple platforms. If you’re just getting started, you don’t need to worry about re-purposing. It’s better to get a grip on one platform first, but once you’re ready to expand your reach, re-purposing is a great way to get a lot more out of everything you produce.
Hope that helps!
