Learning to love yourself might be hard but think of all the possibilities if you do.
“Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is you-er than you. Shout aloud, I am glad to be what I am. Thank goodness I’m not a ham, or a clam, or a dusty old jar of gooseberry jam. I am what I am, what a great thing to be. If I say so myself, happy every day to me!”
― Dr. Seuss
Imagine that two books about you have just been published. The first book raves about you and your work. The first book tells you are a Divine gift. In it, you are showered in praise and encourages you to chase a dream and live in your success.
The second book tells you that you are a complete idiot and a blight upon this world. It insults you and dismisses your work as a waste of time. It encourages people to ignore you completely.
Which of those two books would get more of your energy and attention?
If your anything like most people, the second book would get far more of your attention and “reading time.” As it turns out, this is normal. It’s the result of what is called the “Negativity Bias.”
The negativity bias is the phenomenon that if there are two equally charged stimuli, the negative one will attract more of your mind’s attention.
Because of past programming, your mind tends to view you as being far less intelligent, capable, good looking, charming, and ultimately, worthy of love than you are.
If you are having trouble loving yourself and accepting that you are worthy, there is nothing wrong with you. The good news is loving yourself is a skill that can you can learn and master. The first step is realizing the truth about you. That truth is that you are worthy of all your heart seeks.
When you are willing to accept the truth that you are worthy, everything else in your life will flow from this new relationship with yourself. When you learn to treat yourself like someone worthy of love, respect, and compassion, and the universe will flow more effortlessly, abundantly, and joyfully than you can imagine.
You can not receive what you can’t create. Today create an awareness that you are worthy. ~eric g reid
