Meet Kevin McNeil This Weeks Fun Friend Friday Guest
Join us as we talk about the Echoes of Trauma and the impact on families and communities.
We can’t afford to be silent when it comes to the issue of abuse. Former DeKalb County Police Officer and Special Victims Detective Kevin McNeil speaks about his past struggles with voicing his pain involving sexual assault as a child at his residence in Lawrenceville. McNeil says he was sexually assaulted when he was 12-years-old while living in Memphis. He says it wasn’t until recently that he found healing by sharing his story with others. He now speaks around the nation about sexual assault through his company, The Twelve Project, and gives perspectives from a victim and an overcomer. McNeil is also the author of books dealing with sexual assault for children and adults.
When Kevin shared his findings with victims and their parents, parents began taking their children to counseling, and sought out other educational resources on abuse. Some parents expressed to him that they did not know how to seek out information on abuse that they desired and that they wanted someone who would make the information simple and readily available.
“the behavior/violence we see in some youth is often abuse unhandled” ~ Kevin McNeil
Abuse kills; however, it is the silence surrounding abuse that makes it deadly. Millions of people are affected by abuse each year. IT IS TIME WE END THE SHAME AND SILENCE.
