Roma Flood is an inspiration to many. Her infectious smile does not tell the whole story a life full of tragedy, trauma, and grief that has shaped the woman she is today.
On meeting her at a restaurant a friend described her as follows; a well-groomed lady of Chinese descent; tall, thin and poised, perhaps even serene. What she could not see or even guess, was the extent of suffering and loss she has endured.
Roma first suffered deep grief with the death of her mother due to illness when she was just a teenager. Then again with the shocking murder of her daughter and grandchildren's kidnapping, again when her husband and granddaughter were killed in a freak plane crash.
Roma has chosen to speak honestly and openly about tragedy and grief exposing the rawness that grief in her life. Through her honesty, she hopes to guide others in the direction of healing and wholeness. She has lived everyone’s worst nightmares, their greatest fears, and has survived each and every one.
Her book DESPITE THE ODDS: A story of resilience, recovery, and restoration has a purpose. That purpose to being to put herself and others' lives back together amongst the missing pieces. Despite the odds, Roma is a survivor and shares the tangible, every-day keys she used to overcome loss, grief, and hardship to encourage and empower others to walk free of the restraints and live life to the full.
Roma has been a mother a grand-mother raising her grand-children, widow and single mum, business owner and manager, artist and author. Her empathy and understanding came from a path well-worn, which gives hope to those she helps on their journey.
She discovered that the power of love, unfaltering relationships, and immovable faith can overcome the most gut-wrenching experiences imaginable.
